Over recent decades, science has conclusively demonstrated that human activities are changing the Earth's climate. The average temperature has risen by more than 1.1 degrees Celsius since the pre-industrial era. For a low-lying country like the Netherlands, the consequences are particularly tangible: rising sea levels, heavier rainfall, and longer periods of drought threaten not only our infrastructure but also our food production and biodiversity. The Paris Climate Agreement states that warming must be limited to 1.5 degrees. To achieve this goal, greenhouse gas emissions must be drastically reduced. The Netherlands has committed to a 55% reduction compared to 1990, an ambitious but necessary endeavour for the protection of future generations.
